Bioethics Advisory Board
The Bioethics Advisory Board (BAB) comprises eminent scholars and academic leaders who constitute the advisory group for ethical matters of concern to the Institute. Responsibilities of the board include:
- Advising the president and staff of HHMI about current ethical issues that pertain to the research and grants programs supported by the Institute;
- Advising HHMI on the development of programs to stimulate interest in bioethical issues and to encourage discussion of the societal impact of science by its investigators and grantees and in the broader scientific community.
The BAB typically consists of four or five members, including a chairman. The term of appointment of each member is four years. Appointments are made by the president after consultation with selected vice presidents.
The BAB meets in a plenary evaluation and planning session at least annually.
