Edward J. Palmerino![]() Vice President for Finance and Treasurer Edward J. Palmerino was named Vice President for Finance and Treasurer of HHMI in January 2006. With oversight responsibilities for the Institute's budget, Palmerino also oversees HHMI's purchasing, accounting, and business systems, as well as internal audit and facilities management. Palmerino joined HHMI as assistant controller in 1986, and had served as the Institute’s controller since 2001. Among other technological and operational changes, he implemented HHMI’s first major computerized accounting system and developed procedures to ensure that the Institute's spending meets the government requirements for a medical research organization. He also coordinated the borrowing of $500 million through tax-exempt bonds to finance the construction of the Institute's Janelia Farm Research Campus. Prior to joining HHMI, Palmerino was a financial director for the American Red Cross for 11 years, including six years as the national director of accounting.
